#ENDSARS: Awgu LG Mayor Addresses Ndi Awgu

In view of the ongoing ENDSARS Protest around the country, the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Pedro OKWUDỊLỊ NWANKWỌ, "Eze Omeogo," enjoins the good people of Awgu LG/residents to remain peaceful, law abiding, to sustain the existing calmness in Awgu LG Council in order to promote the ideas, programs and projects going on in Awgu LGC.

Hon. Pedro OKWUDỊLỊ NWANKWỌ noted with dismay few days ago about the rumoured protest against the leadership of Awgu LG. under the guise of #ENDSARS protest.

#ENDSARS Campaign is a campaign that Awgu Local Government Council is directly and indirectly involved in, the council leadership frowns at the brutalization of citizens of this nation and reckless maltreatment of our people by the people who are supposed to protect them.

Police brutality and victimization is a challenge that we all should be involved in to find a lasting solution to it. In the light of this, it would be unfortunate if Awgu Local Government is counted as a LG outside Enugu metropolis that orchestrated an attack against herself: against a Youth-oriented government; against a government that is out to put a new face to the Local government. Please be wise not to be used to destabilize the existing peace, unity and love existing among us. Awgu cannot be used as a testing ground for chaos and destructions.

Awgu is peaceful and we all must stand to identify with the government, encourage the efforts of the council and support our efforts in promoting peace, unity amongst us and in particular ending police brutality and victimization.

We are glad that our Youths are woken to demand for their right, to ask questions, to be fully part of the change process.

I want to assure all our Youths that this is a renaissance period and we must embrace it to succeed. Again, i want to assure you that we are together in this struggle and the moment we begin to attack ourselves or attack the government that is 💯% involved in promoting Youth Programs and Promotions in Awgu Local Government, all we have lined up to achieve for our people- especially for our Youths- may be affected. We are attuned to what Awgu is lacking in terms of infrastructural development and economic empowerment. In other words, we understands our challenges and little by little we are reeling them out. That is why we are voted in and we are committed to making our voters proud.

This information is important in order to assure you of our readiness and commitment to transform our locality and that can only be possible if we maintain peace, law and order in Awgu. Please be careful not to be used for political backlash/politically-motivated protests aimed at causing division and destabilizing of our economic gains.

I enjoin you again not to destroy government properties, do not cause mayhem in Awgu Local government. Awgu is known as one of the most peaceful Local Gov't in Enugu State, we must maintain that record.

I want to bring to your notice that any idea contrary to peace-building in Awgu is against our people ane against our development. 

I call on the people behind the idea to boycott every of such protests, Awgu cannot be used as a battleground for political chaos. We must be wiser than we were. Little infractions if not managed well may lead to bigger destructions. Let us maintain peace while we look forward to hearing from the government at the center towards addressing the requests of the Youths. It is not in our advantage to destroy what we are building and what we have laboured for.

Stay home, guard your street, love your neighbour and be your brother's keeper. 

We appreciate all the Youths who have risen to say, "We must do things right and things must get better in this country."

We regret the inconveniences SARS/POLICE BRUTALITY/VICTIMIZATION have caused all of us, we also regret all the souls of the heros and heroines who were massacred in Lekki Lagos and other parts of the country.

May their souls rest in peace. It is painful losing our dear ones, we cannot lose more.
